YABATECH Matriculates 14,912 Students

Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) recently matriculated 14,912 students for 2017/2018 academic session out of 23,704 applicants that applied to study in the College.

In his address during the matriculation, the Rector, Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe hinted that matriculation oath signifies that the newly admitted students have accepted to abide by all the rules and regulations governing the conduct of students in Yabatech, shunning all forms of anti-social activities such as: cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractices, sexual misbehaviour and other unruly behaviour. He encouraged the students to always abide by the oath.

Rector implored the students to be diligent, hardworking and focus on their academics, insisting they must imbibe the culture of discipline in academic to excel in their careers, shun all forms of distraction, take studies seriously, reading and learning should be their sole pre-occupation, and refrain from all forms of examination misconduct.

Omokungbe revealed that the College has some compulsory courses which must be taken by all students throughout their stay in the institution, and one of these is entrepreneurial studies which trains students from their first day in the school to be self-reliant. It is expected that by the time they graduate, they would have acquired the necessary skills to be an entrepreneur and an employer of labour rather than just another job seeker, thus contributing to the development of the nation in diverse spheres.

He noted that 75% lecture attendance is required for a student to qualify to write examination at the end of the semester. Any student that fails to achieve the mandatory requirement will not be admitted for examination. He therefore counseled them to attend lectures regularly in order to qualify for examination.

“In line with the federal government direction and our resolve at improving access to education, we will put more efforts to improve carrying capacity through development of physical structures that would provide additional sitting space for our students. The new administration of the College has commenced activities such as refurbishment of facilities starting with the hostel i.e procurement of 3,000 mattresses to ensure comfortability of students. Management is committed to improve service delivery through provision of modern equipment and upgrade of classrooms, studios and laboratories”.
