Kaduna state announces February 1 as resumption date for secondary schools

The Kaduna state government has okayed the reopening of both public and private secondary schools in the state for in-person academic activities on Monday, February 1, 2021.

The resumption directives were contained in a statement released by the permanent secretary, ministry of education, Mrs. Phoebe Yayi on Friday, January 29.

According to the statement, only junior secondary school 1 (JSS1), (JSS3) and senior secondary school 3 (SS3) are expected to reopen. 

The government arrived at the new resumption date after an extensive appraisal of the second wave of the COVID-19 virus.

PTF threatens to shut down schools if COVID-19 cases keep rising

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has warned that it will shut down schools across the country if there is a continuous rise in the number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus.
 

The PTF National Incident Manager, Mukhtar Muhammed, gave the warning in an interview with newsmen. According to Mukhtar, the task force had wanted to delay the opening of schools, but states across the federation were against it and insisted on reopening.

He said they are monitoring the current situation in the country and if the cases continue to rise and spread across schools, it will certainly close schools.

Adamawa Poly set to offer degree programs

Prof. Ibrahim Umar, Rector of Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola, has announced that the university’s senate has given approval for the institution to begin offering Degree programs in 2021.

Umar who disclosed this on Tuesday, February 2 in a news conference in Yola, the state capital, said the approved Degree Programs is subject to final approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Adamawa Poly set to offer degree programs

The polytechnic which is an affiliate of the University of Maiduguri is currently running 19 accredited programs, approved by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), in Seven Faculties of the institution.

Some of the degree courses to be offered are; B.A English, B.A Mass Communication, B.A Business Education, B.Sc Banking and Finance, B.Sc. Accountancy and B.Sc. Economics.
