Maritime Academy Oron notice on resumption for mandatory courses

This is to inform the public that the Maritime Academy of Nigeria will reopen for mandatory courses for seafarers’ certification as follows:

  1. Preparatory Courses for Certificates of Competency (CoC) Examinations: 16th November, 2020;
  2. Mandatory short courses: 16th November, 2020.

Resumption Guidelines

1. Temperature Checks: Temperature checks shall be conducted daily before entry into classrooms and other strategic locations within the Academy. 

2. Task Force on COVID-19:  The Head of Health Services Department of the Academy has been appointed as the Chairman of the Task Force on COVID-19. He will organise snap talks with the participants on measures to keep safe as soon as they resume. 

3. Online Booking for All Short Courses: Existing and prospective mandatory courses students are to note that booking and payment for all categories of mandatory courses in the Academy are now fully through online platform at the Academy’s website: www.maritimeacademy.gov.ng

4. List of Mandatory Courses on Offer: The list of mandatory courses for the certification of seafarers currently on offer in the Academy are presented hereunder.

MAN Oron announces resumption of Academic Activities

The management of Maritime Academy of Nigeria Oron has announced the resumption of academic activities. The Maritime Academy of Nigeria will reopen for Academic Activities on 28 October 2020. Details are as follows:

1.Arrival. Hostels will be opened from 28 October 2020.

2. Classes.

a. Exit classes (HND II and ND II) are to resume lectures on 2 November 2020.
b. HND I and ND I are to continue with online lectures and resume physically at the Academy on 5 January 2021.

3. Assessment. First Assessment Test will be conducted for the exit classes on 6 November 2020.  Absentees should consider the test forfeited.

4.Resumption Requirements.
a. Cadets are to pay the fees below via the e-Transact platform. 
    Accommodation – N2,000.00
    Facility Maintenance – N2,000.00
    Examination &-8211; N2,000.00
    Use of Library – N1,000.00
    Graduation &-8211; N10,000.00
    Feeding from 1 November to 20th December @N378 per day &-8211; 18,900.00
    Total Fee &-8211; N35,900.00

b. Cadets must provide evidence of payment on arrival.
c. Cadets must provide COVID-Free Certificates obtained from any NCDC approved Centre. Details of the Certificates shall be cross-checked by the Management and any cadet found with false presentation shall be sanctioned.
d. Passes will not be granted during the 2 months period cadets are to stay on campus to conclude their programme for fear of contamination except on extreme compassionate grounds.

5. Feeding. In line with NCDC Guidelines on COVID-19, cadets will not be centrally fed at the Refectory.  Cadets are advised to bring along their food flasks and cutleries. Cadets are also to collect their meals in batches which will be monitored by the Regiment and return to their hostels to feed.

6.Accommodation.  All hostel rooms are ensuite and cadets are to be accommodated one person per room till further notice.

7.Staff Resumption.  All Academic and Non-Academic Staff irrespective of rank/grade levels, are hereby directed to resume work on 26 October 2020. Defaulters will be sanctioned.

8. COVID-19.  The Academy has put in place strategies in line with the NCDC and Ministry of Education Protocols on COVID-19.  These include:
    a. Temperature Checks. Temperature checks shall be conducted daily before entry into classrooms, hostels and other strategic locations within the Academy. 
   The Management has installed Thermal Cameras at strategic positions. In addition, hand held infrared thermometers shall be provided for each classroom and hostels.  Class Reps are to collect for their respective classes upon resumption from the Coordinator Academic Affairs.
   b. Compulsory Use of Face masks/Hand Sanitizers. Use of face masks/hand sanitisers is compulsory.  The Academy has provided the following:

    (1)    Cadets will be provided with KN95 face masks (4 pieces per cadet).
   (2)    Alcohol-based hand held sanitisers shall be provided for cadets (2 bottles each) and will be replaced when exhausted.
   (3)    Motion detecting dispensing sanitising machines has been installed at the main gate, entrances to classrooms, hostels, office blocks and other locations within the Academy.

   c. Physical Distancing. Physical distancing is compulsory. Consequently, parade drills, sporting activities etc have been suspended till further notice.

   d. Fumigation.  All hostels and classrooms will be fumigated before arrival of cadets.

   e. Campus Task Force on COVID-19.  The Head of Health Services Department of the Academy has been appointed as the Chairman of the Task Force on COVID-19. He will organise snap talks with the Cadets on measure to keep safe as soon as they resume.

Man Oron Higher National Diploma (HND) Admission for 2020/2021 session

The Management of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria hereby invites suitable and qualified candidates for admission into various Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes of the Academy for the 2020/2021 Academic Session. Online registration will commence from Monday, 12th October to Friday, 13th November 2020.
The duration of Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes is two (2) years, divided into four (4) semesters. The following programmes are on offer:

  • Nautical Science
  • Marine Engineering
  • Maritime Transport and Business Management

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates seeking admission into the Academy must have a functional and accessible electronic mail address (E-mail) and mobile phone number.
A. Nautical Science
a. Applicants Must possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent with at least FIVE (5) CREDIT passes in subjects which must include.
&-8211; Mathematics
&-8211; English Language,
&-8211; Physics
&-8211; Geography,
&-8211; And any other related Science subject obtained in NOT MORE THAN TWO SITTINGS.
b. Applicants Must possess a National Diploma Certificate in Nautical Science with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.50 (Lower Credit) from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria or other accredited institution listed with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Also, candidates must have JAMB Registration number.
c. Applicants Must have completed a minimum of one-year post-ND Industrial Training with evidence or must have acquired a minimum of one-year cognate work experience in a relevant organisation.
d. Candidates with PASS at National Diploma level from Maritime Academy of Nigeria must have completed a minimum of two years Post-ND Industrial Training with evidence or must have acquired a minimum of two years cognate work experience in a relevant organisation.

B. Marine Engineering
a. Applicants Must possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent with at least FIVE CREDIT passes in subjects which must include

Applicants Must possess a National Diploma Certificate in Marine Engineering with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.50 (Lower Credit) from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria or other accredited institutions listed with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Also, candidates must have JAMB Registration number.
c. Applicants Must have completed a minimum of one-year post-ND Industrial Training with evidence or must have acquired a minimum of one-year cognate work experience in a relevant organization.
d. Candidates with PASS at National Diploma level from Maritime Academy of Nigeria must have completed a minimum of two years Post-ND Industrial Training with evidence or must have acquired a minimum of two years cognate work experience in a relevant organisation.
 

C. Maritime Transport and Business Management
a. Applicants Must possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent with at least FIVE CREDIT passes in subjects which must include:
&-8211; Mathematics,
&-8211; English Language,
&-8211; Economics,
&-8211; And any two of Geography, Commerce, Government, Financial Accounting or Business Management obtained in NOT MORE THAN TWO SITTINGS.
b. Applicants Must possess a National Diploma Certificate in Maritime Transport and Business Studies with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.50 (Lower Credit) from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria or other accredited institution listed with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Also, candidates must have JAMB Registration number
c. Applicants Must have completed a minimum of one-year post-ND Industrial Training with evidence or acquired a minimum of one-year cognate work experience in a relevant organization.

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL FITNESS
Due to the peculiar requirements of the Institution and the maritime industry as well as International Convention on Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) 95 as amended in 2010 which mandates all sea men to be physically and mentally fit to work in the maritime industry, all applicants are expected to be physically and mentally fit to be able to withstand the rigours/challenges of the cadetship training.
Candidate must undergo some medical test at any Government Hospital and upload their medical status on the application portal. The list of medical tests can be found on the application portal dashboard.

Candidate should print-out Application Medical Examination Form (Form M) from the application portal. This form should be duly completed and signed before upload on the portal.
Registration Fee: N20,000.00
 

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE
Eligible candidate should log on to the Academy website www.maritimeacademy.gov.ng and take the following steps:

  • Click on Admission – HND/ND Registration Portal
  • Create an Account
  • Generate and Print the Payment Slip
  • Proceed to any of the banks listed on the portal to make payment using eTranzact Payment Platform or pay online
  • Return to the Academy Portal to complete the Registration Form.

MAN Oron Post-UTME 2020: Cut-off mark, Eligibility and Registration Details

MAN Oron Post-UTME form, cut-off mark, eligibility, application fee, deadline and registration details for the 2020/2021 Academic Session have been announced. Cut-off mark is 160 & 175 (depending on intended course of study). Application fee is N2000. Registration commences October 12th and ends November 20th.

Online registration for the Maritime Academy of Nigeria Post-UTME Screening Exercise for the admission into National Diploma (ND) programmes for the 2020/2021 Academic Year will commence from Monday, 12th October to Friday, 20th November 2020.

ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES

ADMISSION AND SCREENING REQUIREMENTS
Candidates seeking admission into the Academy must have a functional and accessible electronic mail address (E-mail) and mobile phone number.

1.    A minimum of 175 marks in the 2020/2021 UTME for:
a) Nautical Science
b) Marine Engineering and
c) Electrical/Electronic Engineering

2.    A minimum of 160 marks in the 2020/2021 UTME for Maritime Transport and Business Studies.

3.    A minimum of five (5) credit passes in relevant O-level subjects obtained in not more than two sittings within the LAST FIVE YEARS.

4.    MUST have the correct JAMB subject combinations for each course of Interest.

Candidates must possess Five (5) credit passes at Senior School Certificate Examination or its equivalent in the following subjects:
