Other elected officers were Olajide Aina as assistant Secretary General; Olulu Chikere Robinson,Treasurer; Moffat Ndifreke, Financial Secretary; Sunday Iji Internal Auditor; Oluchi Temple, Welfare Officer and Elijah Akwa, Public Relations Officer of the union.

Speaking at the end of the exercise, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Udauk S. Ukekpe expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the election.

The Polytechnic boss commended the members of ASUP for demonstrating and exercising a high sense of decorum during the election. He urged them to dutifully carry out their responsibilities and also ensure they do not engage in anything that will tarnish the image of the Polytechnic, while also striving to promote their members&-8217; welfare and making it their paramount interest.

Responding, the chairman of ASUP Federal Polytechnic, Ukana Chapter, Mr Itoro Ekanemesang, thanked members for their support and privilege to serve. He assured the Polytechnic that he will carry everyone along with the aim of moving the union forward within the shortest possible time.

The election was conducted by the Zonal Coordinator of ASUP, Zone D, Mr Precious Nwokolo following the expiration of the former Exco in August.

The authorities of Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Akwa Ibom State, has announced Monday, 2nd November, 2020 as resumption date for academic activities in the institution.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Polytechnic, Mr.Manasseh Umoette and made available to newsmen.

The statement reads in part, &-8220;academic activities will resume in the Polytechnic on Monday, 2nd November, 2020. All students are requested to resume lectures on that date. They are expected to check their various departmental notice boards for the revised academic calendar,&-8221; the statement stressed.

He said in anticipation of the resumption, the Management of the Polytechnic had taken far reaching decisions to safeguard and protect staff, students and visitors to the Polytechnic against covid-19 infection.

In his words,&-8221; Management has declared a &-8220;no mask, no entry&-8221; policy, thereby making the use of face mask in the Polytechnic mandatory. Covid-19 Protocol Monitoring and Enforcement Committee are to enforce compliance among staff, students and visitors. The Polytechnic has procured some pharmacological and non pharmacological facilities to combat covid-19 infection, &-8220;the statement added.

According to the statement, visitors who do not have any official business to transact in the Polytechnic will not be welcomed.

Recall that the Polytechnic closed down in March this year following the outbreak of covid-19 in the country.

Ukana Poly begins construction of computer engineering complex, others

To make good his earlier promise to change the fortunes of Federal Polytechnic, Ukana through infrastructural renaissance with a view to enlarging the scope and broadening academic menu in the Polytechnic, the Rector, Dr. Uduak S. Ukekpe today handed over site to four contractors for the immediate commencement of construction works at the Main Campus of the institution.

Dr. Ukekpe said the current Management would leave nothing to chance in providing state-of-the-art infrastructure as well as securing accreditation for programmes in the Polytechnic. He charged the contractors to deliver quality jobs and on schedule to enable the Polytechnic pursue its vision and programmes.

Responding, the Managing Director of one of the companies, Good Works Associated Services Ltd, Engr. Nse Udofia promised to complete the job on schedule and according to specification.

The project sites handed over to contractors include: Construction of Academic Staff Block, construction of Computer Science Complex, construction of 250 capacity Lecture Theatre, and construction of Computer Engineering Complex. The four projects are to kick-start next week and will continue simultaneously. It is expected to be completed in mid 2021.
