Caleb University receives NUC’s approval to run full-time Law programme

Caleb University, Imota Lagos State has received approval for National Universities Commission (NUC) to run a full-time LLB Law programme. This was contained in a letter dated February 10, 2021, and signed on behalf of the NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, by Dr. N.B. Saliu, who is the Director of Academic Planning of the accreditation agency.

According to the letter released by the university’s Proprietor, Dr. Ola Adebogun, on Monday, the NUC stated that the programme should be run at the Magodo Campus of the institution with effect from the 2020/2021 academic session.

The NUC, however, added that the Law programme should not be run on a part-time basis, stating that, “the programme shall bear only the approved titles and nomenclature and that any change will require the approval of the commission.”

Reacting to the development, Adebogun noted that the huge infrastructural development and quality of lecturers at the College of Law won the university the NUC’s approval.

The Vice-Chancellor of the varsity, Prof. Nosa Owens-Ibie, said, “The approval is a continuation of the harvest of good news in Caleb University, and we remain grateful to the National Universities Commission for its support”.

Caleb University School Fees Schedule 2017/2018 Published

The management of Caleb University has released the school fees schedule for the 2017/2018 academic session.

Details of approved fees per semester for 2017/2018
session is as stated in the attached pdf document;

Candidates shall be allowed to register only upon full payment of prescribed fees.

While candidates are at liberty to choose from available types of accommadation on the approved fee
s schedule,an alternative accommodation shall be allocated where the preferred type is not available. Allocation of accommodation shall be on first come first served basis.

Also, full payment for the accommodation type selected by candidates for the semester is required before they
will be allowed into the halls of residence.
Full payment of the total school and accommodation fees due for the academic year is also acceptable.

All payments should be made in bank draft or managers cheque from any bank in Nigeria in favor of CALEB

The bank draft should be exchanged with the University official receipt at the bursary department on or before resumption.

Cash payments shall not be allowed.

NUC approves part-time courses for Caleb university

Caleb University Imota, Lagos State, has received approval from the National Universities Commission to run four part-time programs.

The Information, Media and Publication Specialist of the university, Olawale Adekoya, in a statement said the part-time programs approved by the NUC include, B.Sc. Economics; B.Sc. Political Science; B.Sc. International Relations; and B.Sc.Criminology and Security Studies.

Only 25 Nigerian universities have full accreditation – NUC

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has disclosed that out of the 170 public and private universities currently operating in Nigeria, only 25 universities have received full courses accreditation from the commission.

This was contained in the commission&-8217;s 2021 universities ranking report, compiled by a team of experts drawn from the academic planning units of 91 universities and headed by former NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Peter Okebukola.

In the report, it is revealed that 31 universities have over 90 percent of their courses accredited, 20 have over 80 percent accredited, 11 have above 70 percent while 11 universities have between zero and 50 percent accredited courses.

The commission mentioned the Nigeria Army University, Biu, Borno State, Air Force Institute of Technology and 6 other institutions as schools with no accredited courses. 

On the other hand, the University of Ibadan (UI) is rated Nigeria&-8217;s best university with 454.56 points, Redeemers University (RUN) took up the second spot with 384.96 points; Covenant University (368.11 points); Ladoke Akintoka University, Ogbomoso (315.23 points) and Federal University of Technology Akure (264.14 points). However, none of the best-ranked universities were listed among the 25 institution that have their courses 100 percent accredited.

Some of the 25 universities with fully accredited courses include; Adeleke University, Osun State;  Al-Qalam University, Katsina State;  Caleb University, Lagos State;  Chrisland University, Lagos State;  Crescent University, Ogun State; Federal University, Lokoja, Federal University, Wukari, Federal University, Kashere, among others.

According to the student, he gained admission in 2019, and despite spending 3 years in the university, he is still in his second year. The student compared his fate to that of his friend who is in a private university and is about to graduate despite the fact that they gained admission at the same time.
